Protect PDF
Secure your PDFs with AES-256 password protection and permission restrictions.
How Protect PDF works
Encrypts your PDFs with AES-256. Without the open password you set, the file can't be opened. "Suggest a strong password" generates a long random one for you.
In the advanced options you can also set an owner password and permissions: printing, copying text, changing the document, editing pages, adding comments and filling in forms can each be allowed or blocked. Whether those restrictions are honored depends on the PDF reader; real confidentiality comes from the open password.
Frequently asked questions
What if I forget the password?
There's no way to recover it. Encryption happens in your browser and the password is never sent anywhere, so nobody, Yeti included, knows it. Keep the original file or the password somewhere safe.
How should I give the password to the recipient?
Through a different channel from the file: if the file goes by email, send the password by text or say it on a call.
Is Protect PDF free? Do I need an account?
It’s free and there’s no sign-up. We don’t ask for an email address and we don’t put a Yeti watermark on your file.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The file is processed in your browser’s memory on your own device and is never sent to Yeti’s servers. You can choose up to 20 files at a time, 25 MB each and 100 MB in total.
