Sanitize Document
Remove metadata, scripts, hidden data and attachments before you share.
How Sanitize Document works
Removes invisible and unnecessary content from a PDF before you share it. The tool scans the document and lists what it finds by type: metadata such as author, title, creating program and dates; JavaScript and external actions (launching programs, submitting forms, media); embedded files; notes, highlights and stamps; web and page links; bookmarks; embedded thumbnails and hidden data left by editing programs.
You choose which types to remove. Running it before a document goes outside your organization, especially after redaction, is a good habit.
Frequently asked questions
Does sanitizing change the visible page?
No. Text, images and layout stay as they are; only the invisible or interactive items you select are removed. If you choose to remove comments, notes and highlights on the page are deleted too.
Is a PDF with JavaScript dangerous?
Most PDF readers restrict scripts, but removing JavaScript from a document that has no reason to contain it, outside of forms, is the safe choice.
Is Sanitize Document free? Do I need an account?
It’s free and there’s no sign-up. We don’t ask for an email address and we don’t put a Yeti watermark on your file.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The file is processed in your browser’s memory on your own device and is never sent to Yeti’s servers. The limit is 25 MB and 200 pages per file.
