How Remove Background works
Separates the person, product or animal in a photo from its background. You can get the result as a transparent PNG, or save it as a JPG on white or any solid colour you like; handy for e-commerce product images, profile pictures and presentations.
Edges are refined using the image’s own colour transitions so the mask hugs the real outline of the subject. The model (U²-Net) runs in your browser; your photo never leaves your device, and about 9 MB is downloaded the first time. It works best on subjects that stand out clearly from the background; strands of hair and see-through objects such as glass are the hard cases.

Bits of the background are left. What can I do?
Try a well-lit photo where the subject stands out clearly from the background. You can trim leftover edges with Crop Image and add a new frame with Photo Editor if needed.
Why is the transparent PNG so large?
PNG is lossless and also stores the transparency. To cut its size, run the result through Compress Image, which turns it into a palette PNG and keeps the transparency.
Is Remove Background free? Do I need an account?
It’s free and there’s no sign-up. We don’t ask for an email address and we don’t put a Yeti watermark on your file.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The file is processed in your browser’s memory on your own device and is never sent to Yeti’s servers. The AI model runs in your browser too; it is only downloaded from our site the first time you use the tool. You can choose up to 20 images at a time, 25 MB and 24 megapixels each.
